Portable Firefox is a fully functional package of Firefox optimized for use on a USB key drive. It has some specially-selected optimizations to make it perform faster and extend the life of your USB key as well as a specialized launcher that will allow most of your favorite extensions to work as you switch computers. It will also work from a CDRW drive (in packet mode), ZIP drives, external hard drives, some MP3 players, flash RAM cards and more.

This release updates the bundled Mozilla Firefox to 2.0.0.8, fixing some known security issues. The launcher and installer were also updated to add some new features and abilities:

* Automatic Local Homepage Handling - If you use a homepage (or multiple homepages in tabs) on your portable device, Firefox Portable will automatically update them to work as you move between PCs
* Improved Paths Handling - The directory paths in your preferences file are now automatically updated, making it easier to select local directories for downloads. This also allows some non-portable extensions to now work with Firefox Portable (FlashGot, some GreaseMonkey customizations, Sage CSS skins, etc).
* Digital Signatures - The launcher and installer are digitally signed, so you can be sure they’re the official releases and haven’t been modified.

* Toolbar Search Box - Web searches using your favorite search provider can now be entered into a search box within the toolbar, eliminating the clutter of separate toolbars.
* Favorites Center - Offers easy and fast access to Favorites, Tab Groups, Browsing History, and RSS Feed subscriptions.
* Dynamic Security Protection - Enhances awareness of website security and privacy settings by displaying color-coded notifications next to the address bar.
* Quick Tabs - Provides easy tab selection and navigation by displaying thumbnails of all open tabs in a single window.

Speed Dial With allows you to easily access the websites most used by you. To show the Speed Dial tab, use the Speed Dial button (which can be added to the toolbar), or enter “chrome://speeddial/content” in your location bar.

To assign one website to Speed Dial, use the new “Set as Speed Dial” option in the bookmarks menu, or right click on the tab you want to add, and choose “Set as Speed Dial”. That option is also available in the contextual area menu.

Speed Dial will be automatically loaded in blank new windows. It can also load in blank new tabs. To configure this, and other options, use the extension settings panel.
